TDS building fiber-optic network in Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Project will connect at least 19K addresses to 2Gig upload and download speeds
Oshkosh residents will gain some of the fastest internet speeds available thanks to a new fiber-optic network to be built by TDS Telecom (TDS®). TDS, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, will offer TV and voice services, along with up to 2Gig symmetrical internet to residential customers and up to 10Gig connections to business customers. The company expects the project to reach at least 19,000 addresses. Construction should begin next year with services becoming available in phases.
“Although residents will need to be patient during construction, it is exciting to add another service provider,” says James Rabe, director of Public Works for the city of Oshkosh. “Like any construction project, it will take time to reach every included address, but I’m confident residents will appreciate having a new choice and faster internet speeds available to them.”
TDS recently announced fiber builds in Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, and Bellevue, as well as Suamico, Howard, and Hobart. The company has offered business services in these areas for more than 20 years.
“Current events have only increased demand for reliable, high-speed internet and quality entertainment services,” said Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “Fiber-to-the-home networks are designed to handle today’s demands and what’s to come in the future.”
Residential addresses can order up to 2 Gigabit (2,000Mbps) internet download and upload speeds, along with TDS TV®+ and phone services. Businesses can receive dedicated connections, TDS TV+, and managed IP—TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution.
“We’re pleased to deepen our roots in Oshkosh and offer residents a new provider choice,” said Petersen. “Residents are going to enjoy the top-notch services and fast speeds to work from home, attend virtual classes, or run their business.”
TDS recently announced the launch of its fiber network in Wisconsin’s Fox Cities and is nearing completion on projects in both Wausau and Stevens Point. TDS has been doing business in the state for 53 years and serves customers in 32 states.
