TDS begins construction on Suamico, Wisconsin fiber network
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) broke ground on the construction on their all-fiber network in Suamico. It’s a significant first in a series of TDS projects that will ultimately impact the entire Green Bay metro area. Build work started in two small areas of Suamico and will expand to additional locations as construction begins in earnest next year. TDS anticipates the Suamico project alone will require burying approximately 204 miles of fiber to connect homes and businesses to multi gigabit speeds, TV, and phone service.
“High-speed internet access is vital when it comes to economic development and strengthening our tax base. We are thrilled to welcome another option in our area to further support our existing and future residents, businesses, and schools,” Alex Kaker, administrator Village of Suamico.
TDS contractors started build work on December 13. Initial construction will include placing equipment cabinets, followed by underground boring work to place conduit for the fiber cabling.
The Madison-based company announced its Green Bay expansion this fall, sharing its plans to reach more than 43K residential and businesses addresses across Green Bay, Bellevue, and Ashwaubenon and nearly 15K addresses across Suamico, Howard, and Hobart.
When the fiber network is complete, TDS will deliver a range of symmetrical internet speeds up to 2Gig internet for residents, and dedicated connections for businesses. With speeds up to 2Gig, it’s possible to download a typical two-hour, 4K movie in under a minute. The company will also be offering TV and phone service packages.
TDS' growth in Green Bay will create new job opportunities, with new positions now posted on the company’s website. Area residents can visit TDSFiber.com to register for service, monitor the progress of the build, and sign up for notifications about the new service.
