TDS Announces Fiber Expansion Agreement with Eau Claire, Wis.
Fiber-to-the-home network will reach tens of thousands of residential and businesses addresses
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) received unanimous approval from Eau Claire city leadership to move forward with a fiber expansion agreement to bring super high-speed internet to the community. The Eau Claire City Council voted in favor of a Memorandum of Understanding with TDS, which will start the pre-construction process with the city.
TDS is making a $30 million capital investment in the Eau Claire project that will include installing approximately 300 miles of fiber to reach about 30,000 residential and business service addresses. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2022.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring our reliable fiber-to-the-home network to this thriving community,” said Andrew Petersen senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “We look forward to partnering with the city to build a future-proof network that will help drive economic growth.”
The TDS fiber project will deliver up to 1 Gigabit internet download and upload speeds, along with TDS TV®+ and phone services to residential addresses. Businesses can receive dedicated connections, TDS TV+, and managed IP—TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution.
TDS is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin and has been doing business in the state for 53 years. The company recently announced a fiber-optic network build in Wisconsin’s Fox Cities and is nearing completion on projects in Wausau and Stevens Point.
