TDS Telecom supports STEM education in Mesquite
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is proud to support the Mesquite Works STEAM Center during the company’s third annual Week of Giving campaign and the center’s Computer Science Month celebration. TDS donated $3,000 to the center in a check presentation with Mesquite Mayor Allan Litman in attendance. Local TDS associates also volunteered their time. Field Marketing Associate Manager Cindy Powell and Senior Administrator Malia Mullins conducted a high-energy, educational program on internet safety for students. The program included information on how to be safe online and how to establish safe internet practices.
“We want the next generation to be smart online and be able to use this incredible resource in the right way so they can excel at whatever they choose to explore in life,” said Powell. “It was great to bring this program to such a remarkable center that does so much for the community.”
Nikki Meador, Director of Mesquite Works STEAM Center, was grateful for TDS’ donation. “We educate children of all ages and run 100% on donations,” said Meador. “The funds will be used for program costs because we keep everything here free for the community to use.”
One of the company’s core values is giving back to the communities it serves. Themed TDS Cares giving events are being held throughout the company’s service areas from Monday, Dec. 2 through Friday, Dec. 6—including Cyber/Stem Monday, Giving Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, and Food Bank Friday. In total, the Week of Giving will donate over $100,000 to local charities and organizations.
“Supporting our TDS communities has never been more important,” said Drew Petersen, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “Whether showing this support through in-kind donations, financial assistance, or our associates’ philanthropic efforts, we hope this Week of Giving will inspire others to give back to their own communities throughout the holiday season.”
TDS Cares initiatives occur throughout the year and through the Be Good Citizens program, TDS provides associates with 16 hours of paid time off every year to volunteer at the 501c3 organization of their choice.
