TDS Telecom exceeds $1M in charitable donations through annual charity golf event
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is pleased to support two deserving charities after the company raised a record amount at its annual charity golf outing, the TDS Open. Associates and vendors participated in the golf outing at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wisconsin. Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center in Madison, Wisconsin and Tumbleweed Runaway Program in Billings, Montana each received $90,000.
After this year’s event, the TDS Open has now raised more than $1 million for worthy nonprofit organizations in communities TDS serves across the country.
“We raised a record-setting donation amount yet again at this year’s TDS Open, with $180,000 going to two outstanding organizations that support vulnerable youth in our serving areas,” said TDS Telecom President and CEO Ken Dixon. “It is especially rewarding to surpass the incredible milestone of $1 million in total charitable donations since the TDS Open became a charity event 14 years ago.”
Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center aims to reduce trauma and support the recovery of children and young adults with intellectual disabilities who have been affected by crime. The non-profit provides a trauma-informed, safe, and child-friendly environment for forensic interviews, along with immediate and ongoing advocacy for affected children and families.
Tumbleweed Runaway Program is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting homeless, trafficked, runaway, and at-risk youth and their families. Tumbleweed provides the care necessary to foster hope and opportunity, meeting young people in the community and helping them transition from merely surviving to thriving.
Mikel Domnitz, developmental director at Safe Harbor, said the donation will make a big impact in the Madison community.
“This generous donation from TDS allows Safe Harbor to provide lifesaving and life changing services to children who have experienced trauma,” said Domnitz. “Safe Harbor has two mental health trauma specialists who provide crisis intervention, suicide assessment, and trauma treatment for children who have experienced abuse and trauma. Grants do not cover their positions and services, so we rely on the generosity of donors to ensure that all children receive the care they need."
Georgia Cady, executive director at Tumbleweed Runaway Program, said the TDS Open will greatly benefit vulnerable youth in Billings.
“The money raised will be life-changing for the young people we serve at Tumbleweed,” said Cady. “It will help us open more doors to safety, dignity, and hope for those experiencing homelessness, trauma, and crisis. Thanks to the compassion of TDS, more young lives will be forever changed.”
The TDS Open has more than 70 sponsors, including platinum-level ($10,000) support from Calix, CoPilot, RaDD Network Solutions, Inc., Salesforce, and Tak Communications. Executive level ($5,000) sponsors include Ascend Wireless, Cisco, Clearfield, CommScope, Evolution Digital, GDT, Lumen, Millenium, Netceed, Nokia, PLP, Prodapt, Sidley, and TiVo. Over 50 vendors donated at various other levels. Money is also raised through raffle tickets, mulligan sales, and hole contests.
