TDS marks one year since beginning Green Bay fiber project
GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (June 2, 2023) – TDS Telecommunications is marking one year since it began building on an all-fiber, high-speed internet network in Green Bay.
After holding a ground-breaking ceremony on May 2, 2022, crews have built 91 miles of fiber in the City of Green Bay and provided about 5,800 homes and business access to its network so far.
Officials from TDS and its construction partner, Tilson, provided a construction site tour Friday near Mather Heights Park to update local officials on progress, explain the network build process, and thank community leaders for their support and partnership.
“Having high-speed, reliable internet has never been more important. While much work remains, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far to enhance Green Bay’s infrastructure,” said Drew Petersen, TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs. “We thank the City of Green Bay for a great working relationship, and we’re committed to continuing to work together to address any concerns as quickly as possible.”
Crews expect to continue working west of the Fox River this year before shifting east of the river after 2023. Besides Green Bay, TDS has projects under way throughout Brown County, including in Allouez, Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, Hobart, Howard, Suamico, and DePere.
As TDS expands its footprint into roughly 100 new communities, any ongoing or planned expansion will be 8Gig capable. TDS also continues to explore opportunities to upgrade its technology in its previously launched communities. With speeds up to 8Gig, the network is ideal for commercial customers and households with large, shared internet needs.
For businesses, TDS offers dedicated connections, TDS TV+, and managed IP—TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution. In addition, TDS’ entry into Brown County gives residents another option for TV service. Phone packages are also available.
Beyond its services, TDS strives to help the communities it serves. Last year, TDS donated more than $13,000 to local nonprofits and community organizations, such as the West De Pere High School DECA program, Salvation Army, Rick’s Toy Box, and many more.
TDS is also proud to sponsor organizations such as the Green Bay Packers and other local sports teams, the National Railroad Museum, and Women’s Fund of Green Bay.
