TDS fiber internet available to first customers in Salem, Kentucky
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has launched up to 8Gig internet residential internet service in Salem, Kentucky. Up to 10Gig speeds, including dedicated connections with a service level agreement, are available to businesses included in the project footprint. The launch marks the first time TDS has offered both fiber connections and symmetrical multi-gig service in the area. Available to about 660 addresses today, about 1,400 area addresses will ultimately connect to the new speeds when the project is complete.
“TDS is proud to invest in Salem’s future with this fiber-optic project,” says TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Andrew Petersen. “This infrastructure is sure to bring positive benefits that impact individuals, families, and businesses for years to come.”
TDS kicked off construction on the all-fiber network in October of last year. The company initially planned to bring up to 1Gig speeds, but the upgrade now includes up to 8Gig internet for residents and 10Gig for businesses. Work is ongoing and includes installing cable on poles and in easement areas underground, as well as upgrading equipment cabinets. The super-fast speeds will continue to become available gradually as sections of the fiber network are completed.
In addition to a range of standard symmetrical internet speeds, the fiber-optic project also means a new fast service option for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. The product, called TDS Connect, includes up to 200Mbps/200Mbps internet at a cost that is fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
“It’s exciting to bring world-class speeds to Salem,” says TDS State Government Affairs Manager Bruce Mottern. “We’re exceeding initial expectations by bringing 8Gig while also offering products to help close the digital divide.”
TDS has been a local provider in Salem for 34 years. Residents can visit tdstelecom.com or call 1-888-225-5837 for more information about the new service options.
