Registration now open for TDS’ Potosi, Wisconsin fiber service
Residents can now register for up to 8Gig symmetrical internet connections
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is pleased to announce Potosi residents can begin signing up for fiber internet service. TDS started construction on its all-fiber network in rural Potosi, Wisconsin earlier this summer and expects symmetrical speeds of up to 8Gig to be available before the end of the year. TDS was awarded a $943K grant in late 2021 by the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin to deliver faster internet connections to rural residents in the Potosi area. TDS’ original project plans included top speeds of 1Gig but is now building infrastructure to deliver up to 8Gig to residents along with up to 10Gig for businesses.
“We’re delighted this public-public partnership is going to bring world-class speeds to Potosi,” says Drew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for TDS. “These fast, reliable connections will support today’s technology as well as the area’s future growth.”
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission awarded TDS a Wisconsin Broadband Access Grant in October of 2021 to help fund fiber-optic connections. According to the grant guidelines, the project will be completed by December 31, 2024. At least 184 addresses will gain access to the super-fast fiber connections.
This past spring, TDS was awarded a second grant that will bring additional high-speed connections to the area. The PSC of Wisconsin selected TDS’ Farmers Telephone Company project to provide fiber-to-the-home internet to more than 800 customers in Grant County including addresses in Potosi, South Lancaster, Lancaster, Beetown, Ellenboro, Harrison, Little Grant, North Lancaster, Waterloo, and Liberty. Work on that construction project is in the early stages.
With construction now underway in Potosi, the first customer installations are expected before the end of December. Services will become available gradually as areas are finished. The build process includes laying underground fiber in neighborhoods and business parks and installing fiber-to-the-premise connections.
Beyond bringing a range of symmetrical internet speed options, the project will expand the availability of TDS’ TV product, TDS TV®+. In addition to offering local and popular HD channels, TDS TV+ integrates with popular streaming services simplifying how customers access content. The service also includes a cloud DVR, On Demand programming, and a voice remote with Google Assistant. TDS TV+ is available to both residents and businesses.
Headquartered in Madison, TDS has been doing business in the state for more than 50 years. The company is investing about a billion dollars to expand its fiber network footprint across Wisconsin.
