TDS seeks ‘no’ vote in Santa Clara Meeting on City-backed Fiber Network in Utah
Please attribute the following statement to Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS Telecommunications (TDS®).
We believe it’s in the best interest of Santa Clara residents that members of the council vote NO tonight and not partner with Utopia until we are given a chance to provide a proposal for city consideration. If competition is what is driving this decision, we want a chance to compete and partner with Santa Clara.
Back in August at a public forum, TDS shared that it could offer all customers 1-Gig services in Santa Clara. Our message is the same today. Further, all new development and build areas have been built with fiber for the past several years. For future developments, TDS has committed that all new residential and commercial developments will be fiber. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if Santa Clara would like to partner with TDS, we remain committed to connecting the entire community to fiber internet, with much less disruption, and at approximately half the cost.
TDS has been in the telecommunications business for over 50 years. We have vast knowledge of the industry and, since 2013, we have demonstrated we invest in the communities we serve and give back through philanthropic involvement and sponsorship. TDS would like to have the opportunity to provide more services in Santa Clara and do even more for this great community.
We urge the members of the Santa Clara City Council to vote NO tonight and not partner with Utopia.
