More Stevens Point, Wisconsin addresses connected to TDS fiber network

TDS Telecom completes construction, increases service to reach 1,000 more addresses

Construction on TDS Telecommunications LLC’s (TDS®) fiber-optic network project in Stevens Point is officially complete. Originally expected to reach a total of about 9,100 residential and business addresses, the project ultimately can serve more than 10,100 with 1 gigabit (1,000Mbps) internet speeds, TV, and voice service.

“I’m excited to see this project coming to completion. "Working with TDS we were able to resolve many issues that arise on a project such as this," says Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza. “TDS will be a great partner with the community, and we appreciate the work they have done with Riverfront Rendezvous and The Public Market and donating to a host of other causes in the area.”

TDS first announced its expansion into Stevens Point in January of 2019, connecting the first customers in spring of 2020. The build included installing more than 140 miles of fiber-optic cable across the community.

The reliable, all-fiber network is available to most residents now, with the exception being those locations where a temporary fiber line isn’t safe or possible due to property and weather considerations. Those high-speed connections will be completed in the spring, along with any remaining restoration work.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the mayor and Stevens Point leadership on this project and we’re proud to be a community partner,” says TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Andrew Petersen. “The response has been outstanding, and we keep hearing how much residents are enjoying having a strong, fast, reliable fiber connection.”

In addition to top speeds of 1Gig, TDS’ internet services are symmetrical, meaning upload and download speeds are equally fast. TDS’ build in Stevens Point has also brought a new TV competitor to the area. TDS TV®+ offers local channels, regional sports, and national networks and the service integrates with customers’ existing third-party streaming subscriptions.

Businesses within the TDS Fiber footprint can order internet access and transport connections up to 10Gig via dedicated fiber, TDS managedIP (a hosted VoIP communications solution), and TDS TV+.
