High-speed internet coming to parts of Wood and Portage counties in Wisconsin
Fiber network expansion will deliver up to 1Gig speed to more than 1,000 addresses
TDS Telecom (TDS®) is expanding its fiber network and bringing high-speed internet service to parts of Vesper, Auburndale, and Junction City. Residents and businesses impacted by the project will gain access to up to 1 gigabit (1Gig) internet speeds. Service is expected to be available in the fall.
“We’ve already started construction and we’ll be connecting more than 1,000 addresses when the fiber project is complete,” says Erin Danz, director of Marketing at TDS. “In addition, we’re actively working on a variety of other network improvement efforts in the area which will impact our rural customers in Wood and Portage counties.”
Along with 1Gig internet speeds, the fiber expansion will bring a new choice of TV providers to Vesper, Auburndale and Junction City residents. TDS will be offering its all-digital TV service, TDS TV® for the first time in these communities. The all-digital service, already available elsewhere in Wisconsin, includes a variety of industry-leading features and includes a Connected-Home DVR, which links all TVs together in a home giving full DVR functionality and programming access to each set-top box.
TDS TV is available to business customers in the fiber footprint, and they can also order one gigabit internet, dedicated fiber connections, and TDS managedIP, a hosted VoIP communications solution.
The rural network improvement projects, which are also in progress, are expected to be available to customers by the end of this year or early next year. Depending on location, the majority of eligible rural customers will receive broadband speeds of up to 25Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload (25/3).
The fiber network expansion is being fully funded by TDS while the other upgrade projects are being funded with help from the Federal Communication Commission’s Alternative Connect America Cost Model (A-CAM) program.
Vesper, Auburndale, and Junction City residents can visit TDSFiber.com to see if their address is included in the fiber build and sign up for notifications about the new service.
