TDS Telecom to expand fiber internet network in Hampden, Maine
Construction to begin next year to connect most of community to high-speed internet
Hampden, Maine (October 5, 2021) – TDS Telecom (TDS®) has announced it will begin construction next year to expand its all-fiber internet network in Hampden, Maine – a project which will bring high-speed internet to nearly every neighborhood in the community.
With the TDS fiber network already accessible at approximately 1,500 addresses, this fiber-optic project will bring what’s known as the “gold standard of residential internet connections” to an additional 1,200 residential and commercial locations and cover the vast majority of Hampden.
The project is funded entirely by TDS Telecom, meaning there are no tax implications for residents or businesses. Residents pay only if they sign up for TDS service.
“After serving Hampden for many years, we’re excited to grow our fiber-optic network and give even more homes and businesses access to fast, reliable internet,” TDS Telecom Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Andrew Petersen said.
The TDS network will deliver up to 1Gig internet download and upload speeds. According to BroadbandNow.com, only 32 percent of the United States has access to fiber internet, putting Hampden among a select number of communities with access.
“As demonstrated during the pandemic, a critical community need for both residential and business consumers is a robust broadband network. TDS Telecom is meeting that challenge today and will do even more in the years to come,” said Petersen.
In addition to internet, TDS offers special bundle savings when paired with its TV and phone options.
TDS has served Maine since 1971. In addition to private investment, TDS is leveraging Alternative Connect America funds to expand and improve broadband service to customers in Maine.
