First customer installations begin on Sparta, Wis. TDS fiber network

Up to 8Gig internet speeds are available with Tomah soon to follow

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is connecting the first customers to its new fiber-to-the home network in Sparta, Wis. Addresses included in the launch area can now choose up to 8Gig symmetrical internet—up to 10Gig is available for businesses—along with TV and phone service.

“We’re excited to be a new competitive choice and bring super-fast speeds to Sparta,” says Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “Fiber-optic connections really are a game changer and now residents can experience the difference this technology makes to everything and anything they do online.”

TDS was founded in Madison, Wis., 1969 and has become a leader in fiber-optic deployment in the state and across the U.S. The company expects to connect approximately 4,500 addresses in Sparta and another 4,500 in Tomah as part of its fiber buildouts.

Now that the first section of the Sparta network is powered on, the high-speed data infrastructure project will continue to gradually become available to customers as construction work is completed. The company connected its first customers in Onalaska in January and expects to launch its network in Tomah in the coming weeks. The company is rapidly expanding in the region, with active build projects also in Bangor, Rockland, and West Salem.

All of TDS’ internet services are symmetrical, meaning that the download and upload speeds are equal, including the company’s low-cost offering for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. Called TDS Connect, the product includes up to 200Mbps/200Mbps speeds at a price fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.

“The monthly ACP benefit is a powerful tool helping to close the digital divide so everyone can stay connected to internet services,” says Petersen.

Beyond residential services, TDS Sparta project brings small businesses multi-gig speeds without needing a dedicated connection, however 10Gig dedicated connections are also available along with TDS TV+, and TDS’ hosted VoIP business phone solution, managedIP.

As TDS expands its footprint into 100 new communities across the country, any ongoing or planned expansion will be 8Gig capable. TDS also continues to explore opportunities to upgrade its technology in its previously launched communities. With speeds up to 8Gig, the network is ideal for commercial customers and households with large, shared internet needs.
