Construction begins on high-speed internet network in Magic Valley

Twin Falls, Idaho – TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) marked the beginning of construction on its high-speed, all-fiber internet network in the Magic Valley in south-central Idaho.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held today at the Twin Falls Visitor Center featuring executives from TDS and TDS’ construction partners, Tilson, as well as community leaders and members of the Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce.

Construction is now under way in Twin Falls, Jerome, and Burley. When work is completed, approximately 32,000 addresses will connect to the network, which provides some of the fastest internet speeds in the world as well as sophisticated new TV options and phone service.

“We couldn’t be more excited to break ground in the Magic Valley. With high-speed internet more important than ever, we look forward to connecting Magic Valley communities and serving the region for many years to come,” said Julie Maiers, TDS Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Customer Operations.

Built in phases, residents can connect to the new network once work is completed in their neighborhood. Residents will be notified in several ways before construction starts in their neighborhood, including signage and by postcard, letter, and door hanger. Contractors will work to minimize disruptions to neighborhoods and restore any areas impacted by the burying of fiber-optic cable.

With many companies moving to a work-at-home model, the demand for high-speed data connections nationwide has only increased. Only 43% of U.S. households have access to a fiber connection, according to a recent Fiber Broadband Association report. TDS’ build will make Twin Falls homes and businesses part of that rare group.

Even before construction, TDS has already been involved in the community, sponsoring events including Western Days, the Twin Falls County Fair, and the Movies in the Park series.

Residents can visit TDSFiber.com to register for service, monitor the progress of the build, and sign up for notifications about the new service.

TDS’ expansion into the Twin Falls area will also create new job opportunities, with new positions now posted on the company’s website.
