TDS bringing 1Gig broadband to Idaho; building future-proof fiber-optic network
Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, and Rathdrum to benefit from new investments
TDS Metrocom, a business unit of TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®), announces plans to build a fiber-to-the-home network in Idaho’s fast-growing Coeur d’Alene area. The fiber network will ultimately connect more than 42,000 homes and businesses across Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, and Rathdrum.
“Our investments will provide community members with an exciting new choice in internet, TV and phone services,” says Jim Butman, president and CEO of TDS. “The communities will also benefit from a future-proof technology which will foster additional growth and economic development for this booming region.”
TDS’ expansion in Idaho will also create many new job opportunities. New positions in sales, marketing, and technical services are currently posted on the company’s website with more than thirty additional positions anticipated in the coming months. In addition to leasing new retail and workspaces within the area, TDS also recently purchased land for a new central office to house the technical equipment needed for the new fiber-optic network.
“We are looking forward to introducing ourselves to the area and growing with the community,” adds Butman. “When the fiber network is complete, TDS will deliver up to 1 Gigabit internet speeds which will provide exceptional bandwidth for businesses and for residents looking for the absolute best gaming, streaming, and telecommuting experiences.”
Construction is planned to start in June and is expected to include more than 700 miles of fiber- optic cable throughout the region. TDS officials and contracted construction teams will become highly visible in the area within a few weeks.
