TDS® celebrates launch of 1 Gigabit high-speed Internet service in Mt. Juliet, Tenn.

Mt. Juliet and near-by La Vergne are among the first Tennessee communities to receive the world-class speed, which is one hundred times faster than average U.S. Internet speeds

TDS Telecom (TDS®) is celebrating the launch of 1Gig high-speed Internet service in parts of Mt. Juliet and La Vergne, Tenn. Yesterday, Senator Mae Beavers, Mayor Ed Hagerty, and many other local leaders joined TDS Telecom to discuss the impact on the local community.

“Coming from the communications industry my entire career, I am very excited about this because it adds one more notch on our belt here in Mt Juliet of the positive things happening in our community that are making this the best city to live in,” stated Brian Abston, District 4 Commissioner, city of Mt Juliet. “Residential customers will be able to experience un-believable speeds which make it attractive to everyone from the many people these days that commute and work out of their homes to the gamers who like to play online games. I thank TDS for being a great partner and bringing this to our community.”

This new, Internet speed — the fastest TDS offers — is designed to meet the ever-growing demand by customers for bandwidth. Real-time entertainment, according to recent data, accounts for more than 67 percent of all downstream Internet traffic during peak hours. With TDS’ 1Gbps download/400 Mbps upload, customers can transfer HD movies in seconds and stream them seamlessly—even on multiple devices.

“With 1Gig, consumers can enjoy a lightning fast Internet experience,” says Bruce Mottern, State Government Affairs manager at TDS. “Plus, it can lead to increased home values and add to the attractiveness of this fine community!”

Just a few weeks ago, in early December, TDS announced availability of this new, faster Internet service in parts of Mt. Juliet and La Vergne. Now, customers within TDS’ fiber-optic network footprint can order the new speed immediately as part of a TDS TV bundle.

“We believe that investing in the communities we serve is critical,” Mottern added. “During the last few years, we have been investing primarily in fiber optics, which has led to the rollout of TDS TV and now 1Gig Internet service. We couldn’t be more pleased to continue investing in the technology and services our customers want and need.”

TDS’ 1Gig Internet service includes a free subscription to Remote PC Support which provides unlimited access to technical expertise. Remote PC Support technicians assist with device setup, Internet troubleshooting, plus computer optimization and safety.

TDS TV, a Mediaroom-based all-digital TV service, features more than 260 all-digital channels (including HD), video-on-demand, pay-per-view, picture-in-picture channel surfing, and instant channel change. It also includes a Connected-Home DVR, which links all TVs together in a home giving full DVR functionality to each set-top box. Wireless set-top boxes are also available.

TDS has been providing customers in Tennessee with telecommunications services for more than 40 years and currently employs about 200 people in the state. For more details about TDS’ 1Gig service, visit tds1gig.com or call 888-CALL-TDS.
