Hardware Requirements:

To utilize TDS DSL service, you will need a computer that is equipped with an Ethernet Network Interface Card, or NIC. Many new computers have this built in. If you are unsure whether your computer has an Ethernet NIC installed, please contact the computer manufacturer or a local PC technician. If the computer does not have a NIC, one can be purchased and installed at many locations that sell computer hardware.

If you wish to use the wireless feature of the Actiontec Wireless Gateway, your computer will need a wireless Ethernet NIC. These are also available for purchase at many locations that sell computer hardware.

Software Requirements:

To utilize TDS DSL service, your computer will need to be running Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Mac OS 9 or 10 or higher. You also need an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Typically the computer's operating system comes with an Internet browser pre installed.

To access email you will also need an email client, such as Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail. Again, typically the computer's operating system comes with an email client pre installed.

Recommended Software:

If you are going to put a computer on the Internet, it is also recommended that you have an up to date anti virus and firewall software installed on the computer. This will help protect the computer from Internet threats like viruses and worms. If you do not have an up to date subscription to an anti virus and firewall software, please consider looking a product TDS is offering called PC Defender. PC Defender contains an anti virus, firewall, and content filter. This may fit your needs.
