TDS® bringing 1Gig Internet to Elkhorn, Johnson Creek, Waterford, and Wind Lake, Wis.

Customers gain access to fiber network and TDS TV.

Before the nearby metro areas of Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago get it, residents in several southern Wisconsin communities will gain access to 1Gbps Internet speeds. Beginning in November, TDS Telecom (TDS®) will start connecting residents in Elkhorn, Johnson Creek, Waterford and Wind Lake, Wis. to Gig Internet service along with TDS TV®, a new Internet Protocol (IP)-based TV service.

“The launch of 1Gig service means TDS now offers the fastest Internet service to residential customers in the nation,” said Matt Apps, manager of Internet Product Management and Development at TDS. “With 1Gig, you can do whatever you want on the Internet. From streaming your favorite movie or TV show to working from home, the experience is ‘lag-less’ and completely seamless.”

The 1Gig service is about one hundred times faster than the national average Internet speed of 10 megabits. With it, customers can transfer HD movies in seconds and connect remotely to their office or telecommute seamlessly, even on multiple devices.

“Having 1 gigabit really opens up new possibilities for telecommuting,” said Apps. “The technology makes it possible for people to enjoy all the benefits of living in a smaller community while working for an employer based in a larger nearby city.”

TDS is offering 1Gig Internet service as part of a TDS TV bundle. Powered by Mediaroom®, TDS TV includes a Connected-Home DVR (which links all TVs together), more than 260 all-digital channels (including 100+ in HD), on-demand TV and movies, pay-per-view, and on-the-go viewing options. Wireless set-top boxes are also available.

Customers with 1Gig bundles will automatically receive Remote PC Support at no additional cost. This service includes unlimited technical support along with device setup assistance, computer cleanup, PC optimization, and advanced Internet troubleshooting.

“As if having super high-speed Internet services isn’t exciting enough, we’re rolling out Fiberville and offering additional incentives to those who sign up early,” Apps added.

Fiberville, according to Apps, is a concept where residents and neighborhoods are rewarded with special offers and discounts once a certain threshold is met. In these southern Wisconsin communities, TDS says that once 15 percent of a neighborhood pre-registers for TDS TV service, they will achieve Fiberville status and receive free HD for life.

Residents can find out if their home is part of the 1Gig/Fiberville project area, as well as when service will be available, by visiting TDSfiber.com/where or calling 866-44-TDSTV. A neighborhood’s Fiberville progress is also noted on the area map found at TDSfiber.com/where.
